Roslyn Oglesby Thonnard, 72, of Oak Ridge, TN passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Saturday, December 27, 2014 after a long battle with multiple myeloma.
Roslyn was born in Durham, NC, November 30, 1942, to the late Ross and Doris Oglesby. She grew up in Tallahassee, Florida. Roslyn also attended Florida State University where she met the love of her life, Norbert Thonnard. They married on April 19, 1964 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Tallahassee. After several years in Washington DC they moved to Oak Ridge in 1983 with their growing family.
Roslyn taught 5th grade in Oak Ridge schools for 20 years.
She was the nucleus of her family, exemplifying motherhood through her patience, compassion, kindness, and selflessness. She was always there to give a hug or honest advice. She loved to cook largely because she loved how it brought everyone together.
Even through years of sickness, Roslyn remained amazingly strong and enviably upbeat.
Roslyn was preceded in death by Norbert, her husband of 50 years who passed away just 1 month ago from his own battle with cancer. She is survived by sons Stefan Thonnard (Lynn), Paul Thonnard (Christin); daughters Janeen Domitrovic (Ron), Dee Rudolph (Jacob); brothers David Oglesby (Tana), Danny Oglesby (Jeanne), Richard Oglesby; half brother Schaefer Oglesby (Sharon); sister Sheri Sanderson (Dave); nephews Bruce Oglesby (Victoria), Brad Oglesby (Sarah), Matt Oglesby and Justin Oglesby; nieces Jessica Meyer (Joel), Mary Oglesby, Melissa Oglesby, and Emily Bradley (Jonathan); 10 grandchildren and 3 grand nephew and nieces.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, from 5:00-7:00 pm, Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge. The funeral begins at 10:30 am, Wednesday, December 31, St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Memorials can be made to East Tennessee Children's Hospital. - more ...
