Margaret "Peggy" Brock Carlson of Tallahassee, Florida died peacefully on January 5, 2016 at home surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 52 years Marvin W. "Bud" Carlson, her children Julie Carlson Carswell and husband Scott, Beverly Caroline Carlson, Polly Brock Carlson, her grandchildren Margaret MacCall Carlson, Scott Carswell, Jr., Jack Carswell, Craig "Woody" Vollertsen, Jr. and wife Catherine, Brock "Buddy" Vollertsen, Madeline Wainright, and Claire Wainright.
She is also survived by her sister Julie Brock Weidner and husband Richard A "Rick" Weidner and her brother, Paul H Brock III. She was predeceased by her parents, Paul H and Beverly B Brock, Jr.
Peggy was born in Pensacola, FL on January 20, 1942, but was a lifelong resident of Tallahassee. She graduated from Leon High School in 1960 and attended Florida State University.
She and Bud were married on January 17, 1964. It was the start of a wonderful 52 year love affair. That great romance provided Peggy with her greatest source of joy and pride which were her relationships with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Peggy loved her "Pups" including Jeb, Cinder, Gator, Josh T., Riley, Sug, Zack, Dog, and Huck that she and Bud treasured during their marriage.
Peggy was a pilot and enjoyed flying her Cessna 150 around the Tallahassee area.
She loved gardening and always delighted in sharing her flowers with family and friends. As her children grew up, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years. In 1984 she was President of the Lincoln High School PTA. She was an original member of Advent Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry as well as numerous other ministries.
Peggy was one of the primary leaders who built a wonderful prayer ministry that continued on at Holy Cross Anglican Church of which, Peggy was a founding member. For the past six years she has been a member of the St. Peter's Anglican Church family. She and Bud enjoyed hosting many "Saints & Sinners" parties at their home on Tom John Lane.
She was a Rotary "Paul Harris Fellow", a member of the Junior League of Tallahassee, The Cotillion Club of Tallahassee, and for a number of years, a member of the 20th Century Krewe of Springtime Tallahassee.
A memorial service for Peggy will be held at 3:30 PM (EST), Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 4784 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32309. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church Parrish Hall.
The family recognizes and thanks Towanda Hicks, Carla Dickens, and Monique Washington who were wonderful and devoted caregivers over the past four years. The staff and nurses of Big Bend Hospice also provided exceptional and compassionate care that is deeply appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Peter's Anglican Church, Big Bend Hospice or the Community Foundation of North Florida.
